Guided Trips to Italy, led by Italian Professoressa Tullia Maffei-Lynch of Charlottesville, VA

Segway Tours of Rome (and Florence, Pisa and Milan, as well) - We had great fun with this (after the we got over the initial terror!), and it was a fantastic way to see Rome "up close and personal."  Our guides Ettore and Marcello were very competent and took good care of our group.  Try www.italysegwaytours.com or info@italysegwaytours.com or  call (+39) 06 7759 1822 for reservations.

Ettore Bellardini is a certified Sommelier and can arrange for private tours of Rome's tourist sites in addition to local wineries, including day trips from Rome to the beautiful countryside of his hometown, Castelli Romani.  For more information, contact him via mailto:info@antiquatours.com and/or visit www.antiquatours.com .

The best Gelateria near the Vatican has an English name:  The Old Bridge Gelateria .  They were recommended to us by a local fellow, and it was the most wonderful recommendation ever!  They make their gelato out of the freshest ingredients, and it really makes a difference!  The address is Via Bastioni di Michelangelo 3/5 Roma - but the easiest way to get there is to follow the signs to the Vatican Museums, and they're "just around the corner" from the very touristy plaza right there.  There are a zillion other gelato shops to choose from, but ... walk around the corner and you'll find the BEST!

To get to the the old family neighborhood of Vigna Clara north of Rome (where we lived in the 1960's), take the Metro to Station Flaminio, then take bus line #2 to Termini Mancini, then take bus # 222 to Via di Vigna Stelutti and the condominiums are practically "right there".  If you can't find it, go to the round church and walk uphill.  The official address, if you're taking a taxi or doing a Google search, is:

  1.

    Condominio =Vigna Clara=

     - maps.google.com
    5, Piazza Jacini Stefano, Roma, RM 00191 - 06 3295655
    Directions and more »

My all-time favorite restaurant in Rome is near the Vatican:  L' isola della Pizza - it has fine, fresh food, friendly and efficient waiters, and a down-home "local" atmosphere.  Ask for "Paolo" as your waiter - Enjoy!

The "Dark Rome" - tour guide service provided us with an excellent tour of the Vatican (the best of several I've been on) along with skip-the-line services.

Discover Tuscany - providing a wide range of services including Tuscan Bike Tours, Wine and Cheese Tastings, Guided Trekking in the Tuscan hills and Cooking Italian Meals in your Tuscan Vacation Villa Rental.  An excellent group of people to work with long-distance via Internet and telephone when planning travel to Italy.  Ask for Guido and/or Andrea by name.  The staff can also assist with additional services such as arranging  for all types of guided tours, babysitting, traveling companions, tennis, golf, museum reservations - almost anything!
